My journey to Communifit was not just centred on gaining qualifications and meeting great people but also something a little more personal.
My family means the world to me and my grandma especially held a big place in my heart. In 2018 she became very frail and the only way I could help ease her fragility was by helping her gain the strength to move around. I sat with her doing small movement exercises and building her strength until we sadly had to say goodbye. She has inspired me all my life even by showing me that life can be lived right up until the very end, but we do need to stay active to do that. Watching her become a prisoner to her armchair day in and day out every single day made me realise how many of the elderly sit and stare in at the walls due to muscle degeneration and limited quality of life. This for me was the starting point of Communifit.
Buoyed by the fact that I was already a qualified GP Referral Consultant, hold a BSc (Hons) in Sports Fitness and Coaching degree, qualified Sports Therapist and have fifteen years of health fitness industry experience I created a Sit and Strengthen course. This was aimed solely at the elderly and the infirmed amongst the community and I rolled this out in residential and care homes as well as in community spaces.
Since the beginning of 2018, I have broadened the business by bringing in personal training and introducing multiple exercise classes for all ages and abilities. The 5km series has been fun to create as well, raising money for a different local charity each month where anyone can run, walk or skip the distance for a medal. I am really pleased that this part of Communifit has taken off where the community really does bring it together. I also take great pride in the fact that I am now the official Sherborne Rugby Club trainer.
I have a real passion for people and their personal health and fitness dreams, I love seeing people come together and supporting one another through fitness and mobility but best of all the smiles on the faces! You can’t beat that feeling!
